Remove the existing batteries, and then pull off the three double battery contacts and the two single contacts. They just pull up. Snip off the red and black leads.
Modifying the Spektrum DX6i Battery
Next I filed a cut out in the side of the battery box to allow the leads from the new battery to pass without trapping them. This cut out can be done on either side.
I used a Futaba / JR connector so that I could change the pack easily. The other 2 leads were unplugged just to make working easier.
Replace the rear cover, tighten the six screws, Switch on & away you go.
Finally re-connect all the plugs.

Charge via the socket.
I have now placed a ribbon tag around the battery to make removal easier.
Carry it out at your own risk. I find a 1600 mAh pack last ages and hovers around 5.1 to 5.2 volts as indicated on the front LCD screen. The TX can easily be changed back to the original dry batteries, but why would you want to?
